Hey Turkey!

A relatively quick card I sent my eldest who wasn't able to join us for Thanksgiving this year.  I'm thinking now I should have either split the sentiment to make a "ground" or stamped it in the leaves corner. 

I'll update my supplies list later when I'm atat my craft table. 

Blue Christmas Skates

Over at StampTV they hosted a challenge last week (yeah, I got my card posted in time but the challenge itself is closed) for "Blue Christmas" and this is what I came up with.  On top of participating in the challenge I also used GinaK's tutorial for versamark resist.  Now I realize you will have squint, hold your computer at arms' length and possibly stand on your head to see it but there is a versamark resist snowflake background on this card.  The most prominent one is probably right under the main image.  They show up better in person.  Honestly!

What I think I learnt is that maybe the stamp was too delicate to pick up enough versamark for a good resist and maybe the blue I chose was too dark.  The ink itself should have been ok as it was Memento which is the same GinaK used in her tutorial just the next shade dark blue.  Failing that maybe it was a cardstock/moisture issue.  

Maybe I should find some candy have a find the snowflakes competition and the first one that finds all of them wins... like I would be that organized!

Oh and BTW this is One Layer card, I masked the skates and the circle.

Rainbow Butterflies

Isn't it amazing how sometimes the simplest cards to make are the most striking cards to view.  I decided that as this was a get well card I wanted it to be cheerful.  What is more cheerful than a rainbow after the rain and better analogy.  So basically I cut out 12 in strips with the butterfly punch in each color of the rainbow.  I then cut them to length for the card.  Next I sent the strips through my sticker maker.  I did then send them through my die cutting machine with an embossing pad to ensure all the glue was adhered. 

With the excess strips I cut out some of the individual butterflies and then adhered them to each color for some movement.

All that was left was to stamp the greeting with my Big Juicy rainbow inkpad.  The sentiment is Inkadinkado.

What the Canadian is this about, eh?

Honestly, for whom do you think this card was created?

I could understand if you immediately said my great friend that moved to Canada last year.

I could understand if you said well someone of Canadian descent.

Or even if you said  - oh you created that for Canadian Thanksgiving.  All quite logical presumptions.  Now the answer is none of the above.  This card was created for my eldest to give to his friend because they have some sort of Canadian joke going.  I didn't actually get an answer as to what the joke or conversation was.  I presume it was one of those you had to be there things eh?

IRL - that ink matched pretty close to the red cardstock.  Honestly - given that I had less than an hour's notice of needing this card and then the ensuing "that's not the Canadian flag discussion" I really think it turned out well.

British Invasion in a card!

I made this card for the Inkafriends gallery. I just had this image of using this stamp set to express my love of British Music from the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Queen, Led Zepplin, Sparks, Duran Duran, Wham, Depeche Mode, Wet Wet Wet, Eurythmics, Pet Shop Boys, the Stone Roses, Happy Mondays, Blur, Oasis, Stereophonics, Robbie Williams, Radiohead, Gorillaz, Muse, Kaiser Chiefs, Franz Ferdinand, Kasabian, and you will probably even find me singing along with the Ting Tings.

Well you get the idea LOL.

The card itself is a single layer with masking. First, I stamped the guitars and the "You Rock!" and colored with Copics. The next step was to create two guitar masks, one "You Rock!" mask and two long strips of paper masks to help make the Union Flag reference. I stamped the light blue winged skull images first and I eye-balled the placement. Then I stamped the darker blue stars to layer the look even more. Next it was time to take off the strips of paper masks and stamp the border to create the red lines.

I really enjoyed making this card and hope you like it and it inspires you to do something musical with your stamps!

Inkadinkado flowers (and fairy)

I did this for the Inkadinkado contest. I wanted a really light, fresh spring feel as if I were lying down in the grass and looking up on the card and I think I got it.

I used Marvy le Plume pens direct to stamps and then I covered the stamping with Versamark pen and clear embossed them. So I could wipe away the ink on the layer. Though, I did go ahead and do this with all of the flowers for consistency.

I colored the sentiment stamp with the same green marker for consistency and I just wanted the hint that this was a clear spring day on went the shimmery chalks to give a hint of blue sky in the background.

I think this technique really suits this stamp set.

I'm not going to bother with a separate blog for this fair card as she is pretty much my tester piece for the first fair card I did .

I liked this enough to use it but it made me to decide to not outline the other card's fairy as darkly.

Well you know I told you about my trip to Nomojoland, which is a very scary place to be indeed. Well this was another friend who suffered not being remembered on her special day because of the scary monsters in Nomojoland.

Well this cardie friend loves rather funky fairies so when I saw the new(ish) Fairy stamps from Inkadinkado I knew that I had to buy them and do a card for her with them.

I colored the fairy first with my Copics. Then with my Sakura clear stardust pen over her wings. I don't know what it is with fairies but I nearly always tend toward purples, blues, greens and pinks for them - so I think I might need to do this image again a few times and ban myself from those colors! (can you just see the subtle sparkle on the wings? --------->>>>)

I decided that as she is flying I would just "pop" her away from the background with a little shading and I wanted the added contrast of the white around all that color in the image so she really stood out on the card.

The circles were inspired from the K&Co paper that I have had for about five years. The butterfly is from the same stamp set and the greeting is from a Brenda Walton Inkadinkado set.

I did use a new tool on this card which is the Martha Stewart Circle Cutter - I like it because of the variety of circle sizes you can get with one tool and cutter. There is a bit of a learning curve with it however, what I did in the end to keep the paper from slipping was just tack it down to the cutting mat in a few places with temporary glue stick - worked like a charm!

this is supposed to be a card blog, not a group sing-a-long! LOL! Someone out there in bloggieland knows what I mean and yes Treacle, darling, we are in the Naughties not the 80's. ;)Another card I did for my son's birthday. I took him to his first concert, Live8 in Hyde Park 2005. We are still deciding if we need to do another gig soon, Franz Ferdinand is pretty near and then there are rumors that Kaiser Chiefs are supporting Green Day, ah but I digress again. I scanned the card so you can't really tell from the picture that the guitar is popped up.

Hope you like because I know people struggle with "guy" cards.

It looked better in my head! Honestly it did!

Well, according to my promise to show the good, the bad and the ugly. This one ranks up there with the it looked better in my head.

I started with the red background... it was going to be a blended red background with the bird stamped on the front. The red blended background quickly became a sunset.

To be honest with you - I really don't like this card at all but I do like some of the stuff I did on it.

I like the black sillouette. I like the bird with the white highlights - thank you Michelle Zindorf! what an inspiration she is and now if you go look at her blog you will just realize how badly I FAILED! Still as you can tell this was a card for the dear Hubby and he liked it - just not as much as the other two I made. Glad I married a smart man who knows better than to criticise! ROFL
