Unbee-lievable Birthday!

I decided I wanted to use this image first so I colored it... hmm how to mount and keep it all relevant because I knew this was going to be a "big" card compare to the ones that most cardmakers make.  I decided that I could cut down some cardstock and allude to a beehive.  My first attempt was dire.  I had graduated the cuts and truthfully it looked like a bad pyramid and didn't give the right "feel" so I started again.  This time I made the shape you can see and felt that the image mounted on black could allude to the hole in the beehive where the bees fly in and out.  I didn't want a literal interpretation just the idea.

Got all that done and decided I needed some leaves.  So I cut apart some extra vines (now if you have been following my blog you know I have already used them in another extra project).  I thought to make this all pull together that faux stitching would work.  I then decided to use the greeting out of Stampendous bee set I have.

Such a sweet birthday

Such a sweet treat to wish someone a happy birthday don't you think?  Well, of course sometimes you need more and more an more to share all the delicious goodness and the good thing about these sweet treats is that they are ZERO calories!

This sweet card concoction is for my Sister in Law.  It was all pretty straight forward once I decided I wanted to use these stickers that I picked up earlier in the year at Michaels, on sale nonetheless!  Oh yeah!  You can't really tell but I added some stardust glitter pen to the cupcake and the candle flame.  I thought a card full of sweet confection was the perfect foil for my homemade baker's twine.  I'm a bit iffy on how it turned out but I know the recipient isn't someone that would fret about whether it was fake or not.

Soccer/Football - A different perspective

Just when you thought I had finished with the soccer/football cards - I put a different spin on it (get it?!)  OK I won't dwell on that I can hear the pun groan from here.

I decided I wanted the perspective of the crowd and goal.  So I stamped the crowd on my 5.5 in x 8.5 in cardstock and randomly spot colored in the crowd.  I didn't want them to be more than the background so I didn't use any loud colors just grays, blues and neutrals.

I then layered the grass green paper over the bottom 2/5ths of the card and cut the slot.  I wish I could say it was meticulous planning.. OH WAIT! With meticulous planning I realized that I could match up the front "grass" stripes with the back of the slot.

At this point I thought the "hard part" was done.  Little did I know! I have had this plastic mesh that came off some duty free for a while thinking it would make a great net.  I ran it through my Xyron... it lifted off the card.  I tried again.  It lifted again.  Thought maybe I could slightly melt it to the card with my heat gun and it started to shrivel. YIKES!  In the end good ol fashioned white glue to the rescue and an acrylic block to hold it down.

I think the rest is pretty self explanatory (or I have already said it in at least 3 of the previous 5 posts).

At this point I think you could say I have this card nailed down.  Now I know a lot of people would tut tut at recreating different versions of this card for so many people.  Can I just say, do you know how hard it is to make a card that directly appeals to male interests?  I see it all the time on Splitcoaststampers.  Cries of help regarding male cards.  I also made this interactive and tactile.  Simple pleasure of rolling that ball up and down the pitch seems to bring the brightest smiles to the men in my life.  They really seemed to love it.  It is like a card version of a video game! Result!

The only major change is that I had run out of foam tape and started using fun foam from my stash and truthfully it worked better the card was much less springy.  If I make another one of these cards I will definitely be using fun foam.  I did use foam tape square with the ball

Triple Teamed Birthday

Sorry about blurring the names but it was a bit TMI.  Still numbers of favorite players and last time England won the world cup are on this one.  This card was for the hubs.  He follows at least three different football teams (Liverpool FC, Sheffield Wednesday, and Rochdale) rather religiously.  I had already thought what can I do differently, then I decided that I could spin one of the jersey's.  Now you would think ok, that's the end of this episode. Same but different of the previous incarnation.  The real story about this card is that my hubs turns to me AFTER I have made this card and says.  "You know you should make a card with the shirt as the spinner!" So either this card is pure genius or pure "RutRoh" to quote Scooby. I'm going for great minds thinking alike and genius! LOL wouldn't you?

I make no apologies for my blogging - life is too short!  What I will do is warn you that I have a lot of soccer/football cards of a similar ilk coming up.  Hey! I'm an if it ain't broke don't fix it sort of gal.  What I think is good about sharing this is that you will see how I changed things slightly with no two cards exactly alike (the SCS spinner card use is prominent) even though the theme is the same.

This card was for one of our favourite uncle's who is celebrating his 80th birthday and used to be a Reading FC season ticket holder.  Unfortunately he has had a few health problems and had to give up his season ticket a few seasons ago but I know he still supports them. 

The name "Uncle Manky" is a pet name from my husband, it stems from a family party where his uncle asked "Who's manky cat is that?" Well, that just tickled my husband's funny bone and ever since (20+ years) he has been "Uncle Manky".

Of course, I had to add a cat too just to remind him how he got the name!

That second cat.. well I will get to that another day.

Just in case you are interested, I used the small round stamper with the medium sized font - it overhangs the outside but gives me the right curve for the shirts, I just go along and press down with my fingers to ensure the tops and/or bottoms of the letters get enough pressure to ink the paper.

I guess its hard to tell from the photo but I did my best to make it a Reading FC kit with the sleeve trim in blue and accent this with a blue ball.

A Big Cheesy Birthday to you!

So just what do you give to your quirky uncle who loves cheese?  A cheese card of course.  I bought these stamps from Clear Dollar Stamps a couple of years ago with specifically this card in mind.  To be honest I then bottled it and thought this card was beyond my capabilities.  I'm so happy I finally attempted it and if I do say so myself, I'm pretty happy with the cheesy outcome.

So what do you think?  More cheese?  More Mice?  Indigestion? Too cheesy?

I've been trawling CAS cards on SplitcoastStampers and Lateblossom on Simplicity to try to get it - I think think this might be as plain and simple as I can go.  All that white space seems pretty clean to me but I think I fail on the simple part.  There was a lot of masking and mock ups and one potential image was harmed in the making of this card - its cheese got ahead of itself when I forgot to mask it.

What I really enjoyed on this card is that it was my first time airbrushing!  OMG how fun is that to do - I keep finding excuses to do more of it!!! I can't believe how intimidated I was at the thought and then how easy it is.  I have easily had my Harbor Freight Compression and Copic adaptor for six months and just kept looking at the box.  Now I have to learn how to airbrush with real paint as I have two or three Radio Controlled Cars to paint for my boys! YIKES!  And one of them wants a Union Flag on roof!  Luckily thanks to SCS I have heard there is a masking material in the hobby section of Hobby Lobby that I need to check out!  Wish me luck and hopefully it won't take me another six months to get them painted!
Anyway that's my cheesy story and I'm sticking too it.

Ye Old Buzzard -that's my BIL

So my brother-in-law turned 50 and what was I to do but rub it in his face.  It wasn't until I was nearly finished with this card that my husband decided to suggest a Hawaii Five-O theme.  Really? You wait until I am nearly finished with a unique card that isn't useful for anyone else we know this year?!  Anyway I stuck with my original plan and will have to try to remember to use the Hawaiian theme in the future!  So here's my attempt at elder humor -

It's a combined stamps project.  What can I say if I like a stamp I use it.  And I really like how these combined.  The image is from High Hopes Stamps and the Large numbers are from Kitchen Sink Stamps.  I love both stamp companies - High Hopes for their whimsy and Kitchen Sink Stamps for their beauty.  I wanted the graphic punch of a cartoon with this card, do you remember the days when we used to get excited about the color in the newspaper and how they used to print the comics in color on Sunday?  I guess I'm showing my age because its a fond memory of mine and that was the sort of feel I was going for with this.  Did I get it right?  The multi-colored line of "50" is the envelope.

This is a card I made for a dear friend whose birthday is at Christmas time and I like to send her birthday cards that don't look like Christmas cards with "Happy Birthday" on them.

I really like how simple this was and how it turned out.

Loads of rectangles to compliment one another and a great patterned cardstock from DCWV. I cut apart a Stampendous phrase to keep it short and relevant, and guess what! no stamp police came and hunted me down for doing that! LOL.

Well you know you do! And so does the recipient of this card too!

I stamped the Stampendous image and went with blues - I tend toward red guitars but I wanted to be slightly less predictable. I colored both the base image and the second popped image with Copics. I then stamped the sentiment and adhered the second guitar on top of the first and matted the image in black. I put the three brads on it to echo the silver of the background image.

As you can see, because of the foiled paper it was a bit of bear to photograph. I went for a clear picture with a close up to show off the foil!

Hipp O'Birthday!

I love this image I got from High Hopes! I never thought of myself as cutesy but I guess I am. I tend toward young images rather than overt realism. I guess I like the fun fantasy of them and the kick toward being young at heart. I do love the effects I get with my copics in coloring in our purple hippo. I decided to take a nod from the High Hopes Stamps though made my hippo more purple than theirs. Theirs has more pink tones but I shyed away from the pink tones as this is for a boy.

I also like the color combo of orange and blue and wanted to use up some of my patterned cardstock stash - so pretty but I struggle to use it!

With my critical eye I think there are two things I could have changed about this to just make it pop that much more. Use a co-ordinating green in the image itself and vary the grounding color from the shadow.

I've got the Moo-sic in me! What Party a Animal.

I love this cow stamp from High Hopes! It's downright moo-ving, and makes me feel so moo-sical! It is absolutely udder-ly fun! The punny thing is that this card started with the candles!

For some reason I had Sixteen Candles in my head for my niece's 16th Birthday - well I think we can all agree I put a few more than sixteen on here but the stamp just made such fun and unique background paper.

I also used the cake from the same Stampendous set so our cow would have a purpose other than to party her life away!

My cow likes to party all the time, party all the time, party all the time...oh dear went a bit 80's retro there for a moment! However I made certain she was ready to impress, her cake candles have stickles and her hoofs are polished (glossy accents) and what silly card worth its milk doesn't use googly eyes when the opportunity presents itself?!?!?!

I cut out our party cow and cake and then had to think... what would pop with the colors I had already selected. I decided that pink and green color combo doesn't get the love it once did (and having a massive mound of green cardstock staring at me as well probably didn't hurt).

Now to decide on the layout... well I never said my process was straight forward. I had already decided to have a more upright card by the placement of the candles, thought they might look a bit odd on their sides LOL. So I trimmed up my artwork GASP! HORROR!! to make it fit the front of my card and started mounting everything... now the guilt trip over the little slip of tenderly stamps and colored background - my aha moment was to mount it and use it to decorate the inside of the card which you can just see with the photo.

But it kept looking too masculine!!!

OK this probably isn't grungy but it definitely isn't "perky" maybe muted is the correct expression with softer tones of earthy colors and beautiful stamps from Kitchen Sink Stamps and a Stampendous marble texture cube.

My personal challenge for this was to make a card for my MIL using the beautiful humingbird and the Basic Gray Archaic pad - just like many I'm a patterned paper collector. I buy it will all these ideas and get it home and stare at it wondering why I bought it. So I cut rectangles with the front rectangle being smaller than the next and so on. I was going to stack them in a decreasing fashion however, it actually looked too masculine. I stamped the hummingbird with memento inks (I bought all the little teardrop ones that Kitchen Sink Stamps had!). I then used my square Nestabilities to cut out and emboss the image and then to mask as I dappled brown ink over the entire image, leaving a white frame.

I needed a greeting so I turned to my beautiful stamps again and stamped the greeting in the darkest brown and cut again with the Nestabilities. I then thought the white around the image looked too stark so I did my best to match up my greens and some paler memento browns and used my cube Stampendous Marble stamp on both images. I found some Bazzill brown that tied into the color scheme to mount and then thought again - "it looks too masculine" so then I thought (as you do) "D'oh! Hummingbird! I need some flowers" so that is when I decided to add the flower brads and the ribbon bow (it looks a bit like a flower right? LOL).

13th Birthday

LOL! I always said I wasn't going to apologise for not blogging, that my blog is what it is and sometimes life or my attention on the recent national election gets in the way! Though I am sorry that my mojo seemed to go AWOL for October. Hopefully it has returned now.

This is a card I made in September. The cardstock is DCWV and the main image stamp is from Stampendous. I took color cues from the paper and colored in with my copics. I decided to make the image an organic shape , again a homage to the patterned paper.

Manly card? I don't know but it suits the receipient!

I made this card a few weeks ago to send to my nephew who turned 20 (where did the time go I remember when he was born). He is passionate about Manchester United football club. I know you can put your sympathy wishes in the comments box. Because we love him we haven't disowned him for his poor taste! He is training as a carpenter and of course like every young person in England totes around his mobile. So although the images are rather jumbled they suit him and the occasion to a T (square!).

The embossing was with Happy Birthday cuttlebug folder that I inked up. The tool's segment is done with Clear Dollar Stamps Heavy Metal and Tool Time sets. The phone is a stamp from Stampendous. and the ruler is ribbon I picked up at Michaels.

I'm not over the moon with this card - However, it was the best I could come up with including all the elements I wanted to include so I hope he liked it.

BTW you wouldn't believe how long I took to colour in that phone!!!! I probably should have highlighted it all on its own! LOL

A bright Changito Birthday!

This is a card I made for a dear friend in Scotland who not only takes care of her family but decided to take Open University and is doing great! I really don't know how she does it all she is fab!

I took my cue from her cardmaking style - she almost always has bright cheerful cards with clean lines (now watch her go and change on me!) and detail. I was going to do cupcakes - everyone loves cupcakes AND she had sent me a card for my birthday with cupcakes... but it just didn't feel right. I wanted to celebrate her strength and her getting her courses sorted. So I found my Changito, Stampendous stamps and they just made sense for this card.

This is a BIG card 8.5in x 5.5in front or A9 whatever works in your brain!!! I love Big cards for special occasions.

The card base and colorful solids are out of the DCWV brights pad. I scored it pretty successfully with my Score-Pal. I then pulled out some my patterned cardstock from DCWV Nana's Kids (I love the vibrancy but just find it difficult to use any patterned cardstock/paper!) I also needed to use ribbon on this card - lots and lots of ribbon - so I cut a band of white and covered it with the ribbon and adheared that to the card base. Changito and his books were colored to match the cardstock choices with Prismacolor pencils on GP cardstock and cut with my rectangular nestabilities.

The envelope and insert where stamped with lined paper background from Cornish Heritage Farms and Stampendous school and Changito stamps sets. I used Brilliance ink on my brand new to me Kitchen Sink Stamps greeting. *insert happy dance!*

SWEET!

This is a notelet sized card that I made to send to my "cardies" last month, as one of our group calls us! The stamps are from a too cute set from Technique Tuesday called "Icing on the Cake". I wanted to use this set and really started off thinking about cupcakes - I mean have you seen all the fabby cupcake cards there are around and then I thought - HMMM maybe I should just save cupcakes for birthday cards because I have so many of those to do - well for me - and can never think of an idea and who doesn't like cupcakes etc. So after I finished my internal dialogue with myself. I decided it is summer and I NEED some ice cream and even better this is the ZERO calorie kind. Now we are talking!

So this card started with cutting and embossing the white cardstock out with my new nestabilities (oh I love those things!) I stamped the icecream stamps on the cardstock using versamark for the ice cream itself and gel-a-tins chocolate embossing powder - yum! Its not an overpowering smell but it is there! I also made a scalloped frame for them, at this point I chose orange - I just think it so refreshing for summer and I had already played around and decided that I would have chocolate ice cream and then the blue base card just seemed to make it come together. Then I went looking through my designer paper that I had bought ages ago and had never used - you know when you think its too good to use! and found this K&Company Brenda Walton Neopolitan paper - now how perfect is that! (I know you probably already knew about it!). I just then had to sort out a sentiment for the front and some ribbon and Voila!

WILD for you!

This is the card I made for DH for our anniversary - even after all these years I'm absolutely WILD for him! He really is the greatest.

The main image stamps are from High Hopes stamped with Archival Jet Black. The sentiment was made with Stampendous alphabet stamps for the small letters and My Sentiments Exactly for the "WILD" - stamped with Cosmic Copper Dew Drop ink. All colored in with the my trusty Prismacolor pencils and baby oil technique. I decided to keep all the colors muted (read masculine LOL) and tonal. The base cardstock is Blue Linen from Archiver's, with the image mounted on brown Bazzill.

Mother's Day card

Well this card was inspired by the Accordion Card on the Papertake Weekly Challenge last week, that Jukie clued me in on for an idea, and then I looked today before I uploaded and my card seems to fit this week's challenge too! So I am going for it - I can only be wrong (right?) and if I am I'm sure I can live with it either way! LOL

This card was made with some bold DP that I don't know the make of (I would hate to admit how long I have had it)! layered on some DCWV pastel green and lavender cardstock. The dotted organza ribbon is from Michael's and the stamps are Stampedous, Inkadinkadoo, and Hero Arts. The ink is Tsukineko 's Versamagic Dew Drop chalk ink in Spring Pansy and Aloe Vera. AND yes the dots in the flower inspired me to use the dotted organza! Oh and they don't show on the flower so much but each dot in the center of the stamped flower on the front has a dot of glitter glue on it for a bit of BLING!

You can't quite make it out but I used the stamp on the front again on the last "topper" that we wrote messages on for my mother. Hope you like!
