Watercolor Daffodils for Mothering Sunday

Now if you follow my blog at all or just want to scan down a few entries you will probably realize you have already seen this image...

I, however, have to share the story behind this card.  I shall be brief.

  1. Follow the fantastic Frugalcrafter Lindsay's tutorial on how to draw and watercolor daffodils. Check.
  2. Post it on blog. Check.
  3. Put in box to make into Mothering Sunday card for MIL so it will be on time. Check.
  4. Forget to look up when Mothering Sunday is in England.  Check.
  5. Find out it is Mothering Sunday in England the day before Mothering Sunday. Check.
  6. Pull out watercolored Daffodils and mount on cheerful cardstock and stamp greeting.  Check.
  7. Blog about it several weeks later. Check.

So here are the small amendments.  When it was already late I went with less is more.

Ingredients
Card size - 8.5 in x 5.5 in
Cardstock - Watercolor paper; Recollections
Stamps - Hero Arts "Celebrate Everyday" ? (doesn't have a name on the packaging that I can find
Ink - Memento (? Bamboo?)

Sparkly Owl of course...

So this card started out as a technique challenge for me.  I saw this card by uber talented Julie Ebersole.  Now I did do the covering the cardstock in glitter part, um and I was rather sparkly for a while.  You have been warned if you use this technique.  I decided that I would risk using a rainbow Big Juicy pad as I wanted to use this owl image for the card.  Nothing ventured nothing gained right?  So I stamped and would have crossed my fingers but was afraid that would affect my stamping.

Then I wanted to create a panel with these rounded squares from Gina K Designs, Lots of Letters set.  I stamped and embossed them with clear embossing power to add another texture to the card.  Yeah, the stamping isn't perfect, but I kinda like it like that.  It seems mosaic-y (a good ol made up word by me).

I really like color with black and white.  Maybe I should have been a cartoonist.  But it always makes me smile in a grabbing the Sunday "Funnies" out of the paper before handing it to dad sort of way.  Am I the only one that used to do that?

It was about at this point that it struck me that this would be a good card without the main image and a great masculine card so I should snap a picture when I assemble it.  And yeah, I did contemplate just not using the image, but the whole point of the card is that my mom like's owls...

So then I got to thinking... this would probably make a great Masculine card.... so I decided to take a couple of pictures of the card assembled without the main image.  So here is the card without the owl image:

And here is the card with the main image as I completed it.  I think it could have worked either way.

Flowery Mother's Day

Another Mother's Day card that could easily be translated to a flowery birthday card.  There really isn't much to say except even though I know when US Mother's Day is every year I was still scrambling around at the last minute trying to get this made!

Pretty straightforward with a bit of masking.

Card Size - 8.5 in x 5.5 in
Card Stock - Neenah Classic Crest

Daffodil Mother's Day

I think every year I explain that Mothering Sunday in England is not in May...

I will spare you and just say that one year I will get organized and send my MIL's birthday (end of February) and Mothering Sunday (3 weeks before Easter) cards at the same time.  This year wasn't that year.

This is a fairly straightforward and I would say clean and simple card for Mother's Day.  Die cutting, Stamping, Masking, Coloring.  Yup that about sums it up.  Any questions?  I do like how it turned out though.
