Red Hearty Happy Anniversary

So I got creative block and got to trawling Etsy one night, well lets be honest one day & night and got inspired by loads of graphic letterpress cards.  I had wanted to make a Clean & Simple card for my BIL & SIL for their anniversary and this is what I came up with.

I don't know if it completely works.  What do you think?  I like all the components and I really liked it when I sent it.  I think I'm just second guessing myself now.

Anyway at least I used some dies that I have had for a few years and have never used! Oopsie!

Ingredients
Card Size - 8.5 x 5.5 in
Cardstock - Neenah, Archiver's open stock linen texture, The Paper Source
Stamps - Kitchen Sink Stamps
Ink - Memento Tuxedo Black
Accessories - Spellbinders Heart Dies, Cuttlebug Male & Female dies, Ribbon, Heart brad.

2010 - Penguin sleigh party

The last of my last year's Christmas cards well not quite - would you believe I have a whole group of "winter cards sat here that haven't been mounted to send to some special people in my life? Yeah, I didn't think I was stretching your imagination too much with that one!  Maybe its something to do with publishing photos of my work 2-3 months after I have sent it out!  Still I love to share even if its only with a few people.
So here it is and a bit blurry too!  Bet you would believe that I take most of my pictures just as I'm stuffing that envelope to get my cards out the door too... hmmmm I think I might be giving away all my closely guarded secrets!

Anyway I like how this ended up and hope you do to.

Recipe
Card size -  8.5 in x 5.5 in
Cardstock -  Neenah, Bazzill, Recollections
Stamps -  High Hopes (I think)
Ink - Memento
Color - Copics
Accessories - Grosgrain ribbon, Cuttlebug dots embossing folder.

Purple Pansy Petal Power!

I love this card - it turned out so much better than my brain imagined it - I just went with the creative flow and it all worked out this time!

I bought this Clear Dollar Stamp sets specifically to use for my MIL's birthday. She is a gardener at heart. She actually worked with disabled gardeners until her retirement and then continued to run a monthly club for them to attend.

If you haven't seen these flower of the month and flower sets at Clear Dollar Stamps then check them out - they have so much punch and variety within them.

I started this card out by using my Pansy set and coloring it with my copics - well actually that's not quite what happened. I started out this card with the intent on using my twinkling H2O's to create a luminous card that I knew my MIL would love. I painstakingly colored my main image and all the while not truly liking how it was turning out... Yikes! This really wasn't speaking to me. So knowing I was up against it and really needed to get this done I changed course and went back to my trusted copics and stamped and colored again - oh, yes! that really is much better. So the flower was colored and a nice sky halo of blue added to help it "pop".

Oh dear, now what. I looked at my Flower of the month set... I want to use the script... hmmm do I mask the image and use it? That doesn't seem quite right for what I am wanting. So I decided to create a background with the set using the script. On thinking it out I thought the script alone would be "too" masculine so I added the flowers, playing about with the placement using the stamps and the projected image in my head (no image available - just clutter in there!) and decided to stamp the image in a row of three and working out that if I turned the stamp 180 that it would fit together in the middle of the page rather nicely. Then I added another row of script stamping. I used the London Fog grey because I just wanted a softened reference to the original image. I colored in the pansies on my background just using the lightest of the colors I had used with my original image. I looked at my background and thought it needed something. There is just something about "script" that always screams antique to me - so I dug out my Distressed Ink inkpads and found Faded Linen and a sponge and just sponged over the entire background.

Afterwards I was playing with a layout idea and thought I would need a sentiment - I decided to use Brilliance Victorian purple and clear embossing on my sentiment to match the mounts of the image and the card. I wanted it to have a different sheen to it to stand out slightly from the background itself. Then I used the Swiss dots embossing folder for the entire background - that took three passes - I was thinking about using another folder but I wasn't certain I could get the pattern to match. I set my background aside to work some more on my main image.

I had stamped and colored my main imaged on a 4.25 in x 5.5 in sheet of cardstock. I wanted to use one of my Nestability sets - so after going through them all! I decided on one and used the next size for the mount...hmmm... I decided to embossing the image layer... now what? It doesn't really pop like I want - so out came the Distress Inks and sponge again and I used the die as a mask. On the mount layer it just seemed to need something to tie it together a bit more so I used the inside of the die as a guide to put down some faux stitching.

I decided to make the effort to match up the inside of the card too -

I decided I wanted to repeat the usage of my stamps again to mirror the front of the card. I first stamped the main image pansy in the center of the back of the card and the the sentiment in purple then I used the FotM pansies for the bottom corner and the script stamp across the bottom. It just felt like it still needed something so I softly colored in the pansies to match the front! It was then I decided to stop.

Owl thank you!

I love this cuttlebug folder - its not new but its such a great way to get a sentiment on a card without it taking over the image. I just embossed the front and then adhered it to the card base and edged the front in a purple ink that matched the mount for the owl image.

The image is from Clear Dollar Stamps colored in with copics. I love their images and have made a vow to use them more (which probably isn't too difficult as they may make up the majority of my stamping collection these days!)

I'm trying to get caught up as I have the disease of procrastination. These are for my children to send thank you's to my DH's aunties who send them gifts at Christmas. Now the hard part - getting them to write them!

Flying High Snoopy.

I make no apologies - I LOVE SNOOPY. I bought this stamp ages ago and kept forgetting to use it. I guess I deserve the cone of shame for that (yes, an "Up" reference - great movie if you haven't seen it). I took all the color cues from the stamp mount.
And do look close so you can avoid my mistake - my red hadn't bled into the circles until I thought I would put some grey shading in there after I had colored the red. Lesson learnt I won't put red down on my card until last again when using copics!
Don't know if you can actually tell but Snoopy is the lightest of greys with a liberal use of the blender pen.

To make Snoopy pop even more I matched the embossed greeting to the horizon of blue around the plane. I think it works, I hope you do too.

Bugging a Tomboy birthday!

I think this has to be my favorite card I have made recently.
There were several things I wanted to accomplish when I made this card. I wanted the image to be of a not so girlie girl and for you to get the impression that although there is a bow in her hair and a flower in her pocket that the bow is there because her mother put it in and she is far too engrossed in tomboyish pursuits and discovery to worry about it.

Secondly I wanted to use a quirky color combo that was actually inspired by some early Halloween cards that I had seen (take that hot pink and make it purple and I think you will see what I'm talking about).

I chose my colors of cardstock first before I started to color my image, so that my color choices would compliment the image. After I colored in the little girl in Copics I decided that my glass jar would look a bit green around the edges I had already decided the bugs would have a glow about them when I colored her face in so I just went for the yellow glow. Of course because the girl isn't too girly the bugs and flower had to be sparkly so they got clear Sakura stardust on them and then what you really can't see in the pictures is that the glass jar was cover in glossy accents.

The patch on her knee reminded me of my heart Nestabilities and I looked at them and decided I wanted the sentiment to be subtle so I embossed the heart with my cuttlebug folder before cutting it. You can just see in the main photo how the ribbon goes through the heart and I debated ages about adding the brad and finally decided to do it. What do you think?

For the inside of the card I decided to use the negative of the scalloped heart as a mask to pounce the inside with color and stamp the sentiment over.

Ingredients
Card size - 5.5in x 8.5in
Cardstock - Neenah, DCWV, Michaels
Stamps - High Hopes, Kitchen Sink Stamps
Ink - Palette noir, Memento Rose bud, Memento Tangelo

Graduations are like buses...

you seem to wait forever then three come at once . Yes, I know it is graduation season however, I didn't know "I" needed to make any graduation cards until last week. How do I miss these things. So anyone this one for my mother to send my cousin from "the family".

My thinking behind the card is that college graduations tend toward black mortar boards and tassels and then I used the school's colors which are supposed to be deep purple and gold... well this is my take on that.

I just want to know one thing... when will I ever learn to leave well enough alone. I was going for the nice crisp look but then I somehow decided that the embossing needed to be "highlighted" I wish I had stopped before I did it but I didn't and definitely didn't have time for a re-do - so lesson hopefully learnt this time. I'm not upset at what the card looks like just that I didn't stop to get the look I wanted to achieve. On a positive note, I have two more graduation cards to practice "stopping" at the right time.

Ingredients
  • Card size - 5.5in x 8.5in
  • Cardstock - Bazzill, Neenah,
  • Stamps - Kitchen Sink Stamps

Jumping or rather smashing Jukeboxes....

I made this card for a dear friend in England who enables the collecting of jukeboxes. I think at last count she told me they had three!!

When I think of jukeboxes, besides of her, I think of the 1950's so that was cue I took for my color scheme. I colored in my VivaLasVegastamps jukebox with copics in blues, reds and greys and and then put glossy accents on it and left it to dry. When I got back to it, it was bowed so I thought VOILA! I would put it through my cuttlebug to flatten it a bit...I really should have taken a before and after picture of that LOL, because the blob that came out the other end of the cuttlebug bore no resemblence to the lovely jukebox I had colored in. So I started again with my VivaLasVegastamps jukebox and colored it in with blues and reds and greys, though not too many greys as I wanted it to be cheerful, not depressing! then I clear embossed to get a shiny image staying well away from the mind bending experience of the glossy accents! LOL

I then thought whats a jukebox without some sparkle so I found out some of my holographic cardstock and cut it down and ran it through the cuttlebug with the Allegro folder (don't worry its even difficult to see in real life) and used my musical notes dies with black cardstock. I then used Nestabilities to cut out the apetures on the black and pink cardstock and ran the pink cardstock through the Cuttlebug with the Swiss dots embossing folder (twice to get the whole thing) and decide to run the paper through once on its own to knock back the dots so it looked more "retro". The frame and jukebox are 3D'd off the cardstock base.

On the inside I used a Martha Stewart punch to give a checkerboard effect to put the greeting on. and then did a white layer using the negative of the double note die and stencil through for a background for the sentiment.

Critical eye - I think I should have carried over the blue from the jukebox with the frame more and with a thin blue layer frame. I also think maybe I should have found a way to make those swiss dots black (I'm not great at brayering and wanted a very neat look) before I mashed them back down

Ingredients

  • Card size - 5.5 x 8.5
  • Cardstock - Bazzill, Hobby Lobby, Holographic unknown, Georgia Pacific
  • Ink - Palette
  • Color - Copics
  • Embossing folders - Allegro, Swiss dots

Manly card? I don't know but it suits the receipient!

I made this card a few weeks ago to send to my nephew who turned 20 (where did the time go I remember when he was born). He is passionate about Manchester United football club. I know you can put your sympathy wishes in the comments box. Because we love him we haven't disowned him for his poor taste! He is training as a carpenter and of course like every young person in England totes around his mobile. So although the images are rather jumbled they suit him and the occasion to a T (square!).

The embossing was with Happy Birthday cuttlebug folder that I inked up. The tool's segment is done with Clear Dollar Stamps Heavy Metal and Tool Time sets. The phone is a stamp from Stampendous. and the ruler is ribbon I picked up at Michaels.

I'm not over the moon with this card - However, it was the best I could come up with including all the elements I wanted to include so I hope he liked it.

BTW you wouldn't believe how long I took to colour in that phone!!!! I probably should have highlighted it all on its own! LOL

Ingredients-
Cardstock - Bazzill, Georgia Pacific
Stamps - Clear Dollar Stamps, Stampendous
Ink - Memento, Versafine,
Markers- Copic
Accessories - Cuttlebug "Happy Birthday", ribbon Michaels.

A Justrite gift!

I picked up the Just-rite monogram stamper last Wednesday and was so excited to get it out of the box then I thought I was going to have to stand on my head to get the border on - I found out on SCS that I had a defective one so I contacted Just-rite directly and told them my problem. They emailed me right away and we sorted it out and I received my replacement stamper in the mail on Monday! Can you believe it what great customer service that is? So a Big Shout out to the Just Rite time and just in time so I could make this gift to send to my neice.

I took a leaf out of Lauren Meader's blog entry and did the first name and then last initial. My color choices were dictated by the ribbon. I cut my circles with my Quickutz cookie cutter dies - my nestabilities circles are making there way to me at the moment but alas too late to get this done and in the post. I inked up my monogram stamper with some Versacraft cherry pink. The small dots in the border are highlighted with Sakura clear glitter pen. The green cardstock is from a selection I picked up at Wally's world and has a slight sheen too it - I just had to run it through my cuttlebug paisley folder!

The folio idea I picked up while surfing on Splitcoaststampers. I made by playing around with numbers and my scorpal - there are still a few tweaks to make it better and I am certain there is probably a brilliant tutorial out there that I just couldn't find when I needed to get this done... in the end because of the thickness of the note cards I went back and scored in gussets where I could to accomodate this. I decorated the front of the folio using the same cardstock through the cuttlebug with the cuttlebug paisley die that I just had to have and then hadn't used.

I also sent my neice a birthday card with this set. I will post that next time!

Oh and I have added a link to the side where you can get FREE TEMPLATES to use on your own or with your cricut and I think sillouette so have a look!

Recipe
Ink - Versacraft cherry pink; Sakura clear glitter pen
Dies - Cuttlebug
Embossing - Cuttlebug
Embellishments - Michael's ribbon
Paper - Georgia Pacific and ? Colorbok
Cardsize - notelet (4.25in x 5.5in)

Ladybug? Ladybird? Graduation Card.

I never know what to call an "LB" anymore - Ladybug is American, Ladybird is British so I think the darling little bug will just be LB from now on! LOL.

This card is for my Auntie in Alaska who just graduated college for nursing! WOOHOO! She absolutely lurves ladybugs so I took my inspiration from there. I decided to use the swiss dots cuttle bug folder to emphasize the dots on the LB and again I chose the ribbon to tie in. The circle was cut from the front layer first and is a Quickutz cookie cutter die. I put the solid circle aside and put the cardstock through my cuttlebug with the swiss dots folder x 2. I then used my Fiskars trimmer to score two lines and then stamped my greeting from Hampton Arts. I then measured my greeting so I would know where to score the bottom two lines and flipped the cardstock over and scored. After that I sent it through with my swirls folder. I then went over the top of the Congratulations with a graduation cap stamp and my versamark and clear embossing powder. I placed the organzaa ribbon to highlight this and be a color tie to the main image. I then mounted this on the black card base.

The lady bug image was stamped with Brilliance Graphite Ink and colored in with Sakura glitter pens. I then went around the circle making dots my black marvy pen. Then I just had to tackle the "nekkid" envelope too! This time I colored in the LB's with permanent red ink. This was added to the "hole" I had made earlier using 3-D Zots for dimension. After I took the picture I added an insert with a LB on the corner too! I really hope she likes it!

Sorry for the blurry close up! just trying to show the elements together and the clear embossing!LOL

Ingredients
Ink - Brilliance Graphite Black
Stamps - Unknown, Hampton Arts
Embossing - swiss dots, devine swirl, Fiskars trimmer
Pen- Marvy, Sakura

Bouncing Baby Boy!

Another boy card! Thankfully I just have these too cute stamps from High Hopes - it just makes it difficult to decide which one to use! There really must be something in the water with all these boys!
I AM happy with this card, I have to say. Though it is nothing like my original vision in my head! Does anyone stick to their original idea all the way through a card? I was inspired by the Heartprints Gallery - some really amazing things there! I actually started to do this as an all white front with the Kanga on a raised embossed section - although "nice" it was just too white for me! So I made my swiss dots embossing into a frame (had to send that baby through twice AND poke some of the dots back out with my embossing tool). Kanga is now cut to show the shading and raised from the base with 3-D Zots. BTW - this card is 5x7 - I just like BIG cards for BIG occasions!

I really think I need a Scor-pal. I have been trying to talk myself out of one but I just don't seem to be able to get the nice deep grooves that so many people are getting without one. The ribbon is attached with the brad alone thanks to my cropadile through three layers of ribbon and one layer of card!

Gotta love that Baby Oil technique and any residual "smell" is just oh so perfect for this occasion! LOL

Hope you like!

Recipe:
Cardstock - Georgia Pacific, DCWV pastel blue
Stamps - High Hopes
Ink - Adirondack Espresso, Brilliance Graphite
Color - Prismacolor pencils
Embossing - Cuttlebug folders - Swiss Dots and Perfectly Paisley, Fiskars trimmer
Ribbon - Michael's
Brads - Making Memories

Cuttlebug anniversary

Well I really can't take any credit whatsoever for the design of this card - I was inspired by the creations Heartprints Cuttlebug Gallery you have to admit they are just scrummy and so effective.

The receipients of this card are my Brother-in-law and Sister-in-law in England - their anniversary is Sunday AND I know it won't get there in time but still sending them lots of love as they celebrate their anniversary - the world can always do with more love.
Big note to self - I need a stamp for the "Happy Anniversary" - I nearly made myself cross-eyed lining up all those letters! You really can't tell by the photograph (which was taken about three seconds before I popped it in the envelope and sent it on its way) but there are embossed lines to separate the sections.
Ingredients:
Embossing - cuttlebug stylized flowers and devine swirl, Fiskars trimmer
Stamps - My Sentiments Exactly
Ink - Versamagic Dew Drop chalk ink in Pixie Dust, Spring Pansy and Aloe Vera; Sakura gelly roll stardust clear.

Limited Supplies? Well not really....just to die for

Well, it wasn't really set as a limited supplies challenge with these last few posts but I think it probably looks like it - Again my lovely bunny stamp makes an appearance - this is the card I sent my Brother in law and Sister in law for Easter.

The cardstock is DCWV brights pack - its lovely mauve colour (purple-y rose) and of course it has the lovely texture that the DCWV color stacks have. I then put the card and a half size blank through my cuttlebug with two of my Quickutz cookie cutter dies to make the apeture and the backing for my stamped image. I put GP white cardstock through the cuttlebug for the stamped image and cut. I stamped the Penny Black bunbun on the cardstock and colored with Prismacolors/gamsol technique from a previous post.... I then positioned a bit of thread (long enough to go across the gaps and stay) on the back of the stamped image and glued the corresponding sized flower on the back. Then I placed the image in the middle of the aperture and put the threads across the back of the front of the card and glue the card blank to the back of the front. I then stamped the message with my Stampendous circle talk alphabet with VersaMagic Dew Drop - Perfect Plumeria.

Hope you have a wonderful and safe Easter Holiday and remember, don't eat the little brown eggs if the Easter Bunny visits your garden LOL

Mother's Day - Part 1

OK. I better explain the "Part 1" thing first - given that we are an International Family - our Mum's Mother's Day is in March and our Mom's Mother's Day is in May. Clear as mud for those of you that don't have to deal with it right? LOL

AND Yes this is for the same lady that the last card was for - do you see a theme? LOL

I saw the stamp by Rubber Stampede and fell in love - I really thought it would make a lovely stamp for Wedding cards.

The ink is Adirondack espresso and Archival black. The image is coloured in with my Prismacolors (delicious). The cardstock is all DCWV neutrals stack. The ribbon is from Mike's. The stamp is G studio. The Embossing folder is swirls on my Cuttlebug. Hope you like and more to the point I hope Mum likes.

PS - the one thing I would change? I think I would rub over the raised embossing with the espresso inkpad - there is always next time right? LOL

Dahlia for MIL's Birthday

ROFL - well so much for an original title... I got my inspiration from Monty's Mum for this card. The template is from DaringCardMakers challenge and the instructions for the Dahlia fold is from SCS. I'm sure I had some original idea in there somewhere! LOL.
I think my MIL will like this as she has helped with her local disabled gardeners' club for many years so a "dahlia" fold is so appropriate and the purple is to reflect the Amethyst birthstone of February.

The card base is hammered cardstock, the pearlescent purple cardstock and the dotted organzaa are all from Mike's. The embossing folder is Cuttlebug's stylized flowers. The Dahlia cut outs and the greeting cutouts were done using Quickcuts cookie cutters. The corner rounder EK success. The paper is from K&Co Brenda Walton selection that I got a few years ago and was "too good to cut" - I have decided now that nothing is "too good" and it doesn't do anyone any good just sat out of site. I glued some spotted and some flowered paper back to back with Modge Podge to get it double sided. I used Vladimir script for my greeting as I don't have small enough greetings/alphabet stamps for the size I needed - I love it that I can get pretty much what I want on the computer for these sort of occasions.
Hope you like.

Love is in the Air - end of another teaser!

Isn't it funny how sometimes colour combinations look so wrong on the screen but so right in person in all types of light! Please believe me when I say the colours DO go together IRL.

This was a bit of a cuttlebug little folders challenge that some of the ladies on JB decided we needed, as most were at a loss as how to use them. I like the way this turned out mostly although the embossing did slightly warp the pearlescent cardstock (it didn't warp my test piece which was plain white cardstock - but I wanted to use this cardstock and knew the recipients wouldn't hate me because it was warped - LOL). The BG is Adirondack cranberry direct to linen textured white paper. The ribbon is from the bins at Michael's. The stamps are Clear Stamps from The Paper Studio. Hope you like!
UPDATE on the TIGERS! Pleased as punch mummy alert! THEY WON!!! WOOHOO they are District and Regional Overall Champions and Quick Recall Champions (think University Challenge without the sarcasm from Jeremy Paxman for my British friends). The team loved their nuggets and boxes and I even gave one of the event helpers from another school the link to SCS too because she liked them so much.
AND as an answer about my new rubber stamps - yes, I took advantage of VLV superbowl sale and I am delighted with them but as I have been out all day they still haven't seen ink yet. LOL they will have to see ink soon as I have loads to do!

Another sneak peek! LOL

Decided to take up a bit of a challenge to use the little cuttlebug folders - I knew what I wanted to do with this one. I like the outcome but that will have to wait and see whether the recipients like it too - though I know they are too polite to say otherwise!

Here's a peek. Shhhhhhhhhhh don't tell anyone! LOL Isn't this bow just too cute!

Anyway - I have been playing with a few techniques off Splitcoaststampers (they are so fab!!!!) and playing with a few bits of my recent stash haul - that will definitely have to be it for a long while! well maybe ;-) you know how it goes.

I have a list as long as my arm of cards/project to complete -

  • Valentines - at least 3
  • Go Team - a not so little project! that I have CASE off SCS
  • Birthday - at least 5
  • March cards - 5
  • Mother's day card - 1
  • Wedding card needs to be more than spectacular as both the bride and groom are designers!!!!!- 1
  • Confirmation card - 2
  • Easter cards - ?????
  • Thank you's for various things as well!

and that is just to get me through from now to March. YIKES!!! especially as I wanted to make a start on scrapbooking; the dreaded spring clean; organise my craft space; and do a bit more of house unpacking.

I did however, just want to share this VERY simple card! and I mean VERY simple! that I made quite a while ago but it quite effective and I know people get intimidated with stamping at times. The cupcakes are stickers from the Dollar Tree! The "Happy Birthday" is a See D's stamp and it was stamped on the black with White Brilliance and then highlighted with Sakura - white gel and pink, blue and yellow glitter pens. Hope you like!

Merry Christmas 2007

Wow! What a year - and I promised I would start a blog this year so I guess I am cutting it near the deadline lol.

Hope you and yours have a Safe and Happy Christmas and New Years!

I will leave you with my favourite card I made for some special friends this year for Christmas - I think it looks better IRL IYKWIM

I printed the checked background and then mounted light blue pearlescent card with Rob&Bob Holiday Slab paper on. I had embossed a snowflake background with my Cuttlebug and then use Versamark and Kaleidoscope embossing powders to accent the raised embossing. I stamped the St. Nicholas/Father Christmas image onto white card and mounted on the same light blue pearlescent paper. I then stamped the Noel Hero Arts greeting on shrink plastic and highlighted the stamping with clear Sakura glitterdust pen before shrinking. I used silver thread to dangle from the white organza ribbon.

I hope you like it. I know I enjoyed making this card for some very special people in my life.
